Note: We recommend that you create your courses from scratch in BBLearn instead of transferring files. This is due to the fact that when uploading your files to BBLearn you can experience issues with backing up the course, duplicate files/tools, unusable tools, or failed uploads. Quizzes are proving to be particularly quirky. Please do not copy over any user related data such as grades or discussion board topics, as these will cause your migration to fail. Also, please note the size limit for your course .bak file should be no more than 250MB.
Log into Blackboard 8 and
Select the course you wish to transfer.
Inside your course delete any obsolete or unwanted material.
Go to Designer Tools on the left side of the screen
Click on Manage Course.
Click Backup
Click Back Up Course.
The course should have been added to backup queue.
Click OK.
Go to the course under Title that you want backed up.
Wait for the status to say Completed.
When it does click on the action link that is just to the right of the course title.
Select Save as File.
A new window should open called Content Browser.
Click on the Class Files tab.
Click OK.
If you cannot find OK then scroll to the right until you see it.
After the course is finished backing up go back to the Designer Tools and select File Manager.
If you have a lot of files stored in your File Manager, it may be easier click on Last Modified in order to sort the Backup file to the top if your screen.
Use the action link that's next to the name of the file
Click on Download.
Now go to BBLean and log in.
Select the course you are importing the backup file into.
Then go to the Control Panel on the left side of the screen and click on Package and Utilities to expand it.
Then click on Import Package /View Logs.
Click on Import Package and make sure that it is the course you want the backup file to be uploaded to.
Then go to Select a Package and click Choose File.
A File Upload window should pop up.
In this window go the Downloads folder (which is found under the home icon on Macs) and select the backup file you downloaded earlier.
Then go to the section titled Select Course Material and select all materials you wish to import (except user related data).
Then hit Submit
NOTE: It is important to check all of your transferred content to be sure that it is located where you want it, that all course tools are still working and so on.While most static content seems to migrate smoothly, interactive tools such as tests and quizzes may not work or only partially work.
